Description

A World Book Day release in 2019, and a prequel to Crossfire. Following from the events of Double Cross, a fugitive Dan is mortally wounded by McAuley's former enforcers, and is forced to hide out with a nurse, Eva, whose daughter Avalon committed suicide three years earlier after being drawn into drug addiction and prostitution by McAuley. Though she hides Dan from the criminals hunting him, Eva debates whether to continue sheltering him or turn him in to the police. The novella concludes without revealing the outcome of her decision, but Crossfire suggests that Eva continued to hide Dan but ultimately convinced him to turn himself in, and remained a friend and mother figure to him during his imprisonment and his later career as a gangster. Callie Rose's best friend and later boyfriend, Tobey, is worried about his own future. As a Nought boy at an exclusive school, he hopes to keep out of trouble, go to university, get a good job and leave behind the dangerous streets of his childhood. However, he gets caught up in gang warfare when he's offered the chance to earn some easy money by making a few "deliveries." He finds out the delivery was for one of the prominent members of the Dowds, a notorious gang of Crosses.

After her friend Tobey calls her a terrorist's daughter, Callie struggles with discovering the real career of her father: he was considered a terrorist. She becomes angry with her mother for hiding the truth and decides to follow in the path of her father, cutting off her friendship with Tobey despite his attempts to apologise. Sephy Hadley was one of the guests that night. Haunted by the idea that she didn't do enough to stop the death of her first love, Callum McGregor, Sephy will not sit quietly and wait for accusations to fall on her now. She has her children to protect. Politics is important. You're never too young to understand that. Politics is power. Politics is life " Nathan Ealing: The owner of a restaurant at which Sephy sings. They realise that they have feelings for each other and get married, having a son named Troy.

Because Tobey's just been framed for murder, and the only way to free himself is to turn to his oldest friend - Callie-Rose. There were ten seats at Dan's dinner party the night he was killed and each guest had their own reasons for wishing him dead. I tore through Crossfire in a few hours. Although many characters from the previous novels play prominent roles, such as Callie Rose, Tobey and Sephy, this novel focuses on a third generation of characters, with the introduction of Troy and Libby, making this very readable to those who either know nothing of the series or have simply forgotten key details, like myself. The opening of ‘Crossfire’ reflects how society has changed significantly though there are still tensions especially with the rise of a white supremacy movement Nought Forever. It starts about 18 years after the previous book, Double Cross, and introduces some new characters, Troy and Libby, students who both want to be head student at their school and have an intense rivalry despite being friends, when they were younger. Through a handy family tree at the start of the book we know that Troy is the son of Sephy and the half brother of Callie-Rose and as the book progresses we find out just who Libby’s dad is.

The Secret of the Terrible Hand (illustrated by Patrice Aggs), Orchard Books, 1996, ISBN 1-86039-370-5 Ingeniously flips the race issue . . . it's a brilliant inversion, with myriad tiny details that constantly illuminate the grinding effect of blind prejudice Financial Times Libby - the daughter of Tobey, abducted along with troy. Tensions are high between them, with them both being strong willed and stubborn.Their families divisions run deep, and when two young people are kidnapped, their lives and everything they've fought for are put in the firing line. Meggie McGregor: Supporting character in all books. Callum's mother, who had been Sephy's nanny until Jasmine fired her. She convinces Sephy to move in with her and is very close to Callie Rose. However, a threat to call social services about Callie Rose estranges Sephy from her. Humming Through My Fingers" in the multi-author collection Shining On: A Collection of Stories in Aid of the Teen Cancer Trust, Picadilly Press, 2006, ISBN 1-85340-893-X I was excited to read this when it first came out, but once I finished it, I found myself disappointed.

Accused of a murder he insists he did not commit, Tobey asks his teenage sweetheart Callie-Rose to defend him. The two have a complicated history and, it transpires, an even more complicated – and dangerous – present, and they take it in turns to tell their side of a highly dramatic story. During the next three months Libby is elected head student of Heathcroft High, and she and Troy form a sibling relationship and undergo therapy for their experiences, while Callie Rose considers starting a career in politics. This Week's Book List

The first Nought Prime Minister, Toney Durbridge, is about to go on trial for the murder of notorious ganglord, Dan Jeavons. Tobey insists he is being framed. Let me focus on the positive first, the book was gripping and I found myself wanting to read more but I still got bored at times. Sephy's character returned again for another book and I really enjoyed seeing her mature throughout the books. This edition portrays Sephy in her fifties and reading about her growing as a person throughout the series is lovely and give's me nostalgia to when I was reading Noughts and Crosses for the first time. The theme of racism and discrimination is still strong and emulates recent things that have been happening in our world, which was a nice detail. In his resulting depression, Tobey briefly joins Nought Forever, the Liberation Militia's spiritual successor, but soon quits. Tobey pursues a career in politics and is aided and bankrolled by Dan, now a powerful gangster. He uses his growing fortune to financially support Misty and Libby, but Misty refuses to let him see their daughter and conceals his identity from Libby. She gradually spends Libby's entire trust fund, becoming an alcoholic and drug addict, and abuses Libby, who struggles with anxiety and self-harm. On 5 November 2019 BBC News included Noughts & Crosses on its list of the 100 most inspiring novels. [14]
