Jerkass: Joey makes a bet with his friends that he can get his way with Bianca whether she wants it or not, even trying to do so after she has realized Cameron is better than him, and we later learn that he dumped Kat after she told him that after they slept together, she wasn't ready to do it again. Best High School Movies". EW.com. September 22, 2012. Archived from the original on March 7, 2014 . Retrieved March 7, 2014. Allison Janney as Ms. Perky, Padua High School's guidance counselor and a writer of erotic literature No matter who they are, no matter how desperate they've become, not a single XY will consider even considering a date with Kat Stratford. So when I knew that a book adaptation of the movie was written by David Levithan, I was so excited! So I asked a friend to get me a copy then...

The Billboard 200". United States. September 9, 1999. Archived from the original on July 30, 2021 . Retrieved February 18, 2018. Andrew, Geoff. "10 Things I Hate About You Review". Time Out New York. Archived from the original on July 22, 2010 . Retrieved September 19, 2009. The book is about a girl named Katarina Stratford who is a sophomore in high school. She is incredibly intelligent and has a sharp tongue. She is also incredibly independent and doesn’t take kindly to anyone telling her what to do. She is also very passionate about feminism and is not afraid to speak her mind on the subject. Why're you doing this?" I slur. "I told you. You might have a concussion." "You don't care if I never wake up." "Sure I do." "Why?" I have to ask. "Because then l'd have to start taking out girls who actually like me."

Hell, Yes!" Moment: Kat squees when she receives mail from Sarah Lawrence and sees that she got accepted. It's All About Me: At first. Best exemplified early on when she says, "Can we just focus on me for a second, please?" She drops it after Cameron calls her out on her behavior. Compensating for Something: Joey's expensive sports car is implied to be to cover up the Teeny Weenie. The story follows Kat as she tries to navigate her way through the social hierarchy of her high school. She has a group of friends that she is very close to, but she also has a lot of enemies. She is constantly at odds with the popular girls in her school, and she is also constantly being pursued by the guys. Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Chastity reveals her true colours at Bogey's party when she goes off with Joey afterwards (Bianca even calls her a bitch after that happens), then shows up at the prom with Joey seemingly just to rub it in Bianca's face that Joey was going to nail her after the prom all because of a bet with his friends.

The movie, 10 Things I Hate About You is absolutely my favorite movie or well, one of my favorites. I love the story, the characters and the plot itself. It's just so sweet and cute. In short, I totally love it despite the inconsistencies of some scenes. The book was written after the film, and unfortunately this is on you can tell...The chapters are all very very small so even though you are getting perspectives of each character it is not really enough to get a full feel for the characters, if you haven't seen the film. If you have seen it then you already have the knowledge of the characters and what's going to happen, so I think its nice as a good reference material or for a big fan, but this wouldn't be something I could recommend to someone who hasn't seen it as it doesn't do the film justice. I'm sure you won't find Padua any different than your old schools. Same little ass-wipe shit-for-brains everywhere." As if my life wasn't bad enough, I now have my own personal stalker. I don't care what he looks like. I want him to go away. The Snark Knight: Kat doesn't pass any occasions to lash out at people and when there are no targets, she focuses on herself.Internet Movie Script Database". Imsdb.com. November 12, 1997. Defrosting Ice Queen: Kat, reputed as a 'heinous bitch', slowly warms up over the course of the film, to the point that as she reads her poem at the end, she's reduced to tears towards the end. Bianca wishes to date affluent senior Joey Donner, but Walter, an obstetrician worried about teenage pregnancy, will not allow his daughters to date until they graduate. Frustrated by Bianca's insistence and Kat's rebelliousness, Walter declares that Bianca may date only when Kat does, knowing that Kat's antisocial attitude makes this unlikely.Flipping the Bird: Miss Perky gives someone who throws something at her window while she's talking to Cameron the finger, establishing her as not your typical guidance counselor. Prince Charming Wannabe: Double-subverted with Joey. At first, though, Bianca is attracted to him and wants to be with him instead of Cameron. The trope comes into play starting at Bogey's party when Bianca realizes Joey is extremely self-absorbed, and that Cameron is the better guy of the two, and eventually results in Bianca snapping at Joey at the prom after she finds out from Chastity that Joey only wanted to get with her because of a bet he made with his friends. She really believes this. And the reason she does is because she can't conceive that there's any other way to live her life." Geoff Andrew from Time Out praised the film's leads, writing, "Stiles grows into her character, and Ledger is effortlessly charming." [10] Brad Laidman of Film Threat said the film was "pure of heart and perfectly executed." [11] Ron Wells, also of Film Threat, wrote, "Of all the teen films released this year, this one is, by far, the best." [12] Roger Ebert gave the film two and a half stars out of four, saying that he "liked the movie's spirit, the actors and some of the scenes. The music, much of it by the band Letters to Cleo, is subtle and inventive while still cheerful. The movie almost but not quite achieves liftoff against the gravitational pull of the tired story formula." [13] Entertainment Weekly put the film 49th on its list of Best High School Movies. [14] Accolades [ edit ] There are two approaches to going to a party. One approach is to try to make yourself into someone you're not.
