Unlike some other dual format releases I've seen, you don't need to do a side-by-side comparison to spot the difference – the Blu-ray transfer is a serious step up from its DVD counterparts. There have been some claims made recently, usually by younger horror fans for whom 1980 is ancient history, that Dawn of the Dead hasn't dated that well and that Zack Snyder's 2006 remake is somehow superior.

having been a regular most weekends for a good few months prior to this, the guy in the DVD department downstairs asked if I wanted to have a look through 'the horror box', whereby out popped a box from under the counter filled with extreme uncut import DVDs, which would have been illegal to sell. A couple of the entries I added are also present on the fanmade Dawn Of The Dead Ultimate Edition - Volume 2 DVD/Blu-Ray, although these versions are from better sources I've come across through trading and doing past projects over the years. At startup, each disc goes straight to a menu screen with full-motion clips, music playing in the background and the usual options along the bottom. For a more in-depth take on the film, check out our review of the 4K Ultra HD Collector's Edition from Italy. Ving Rhames is the hulking beast of a man who wants to get things done, while Ty Burrell is pure and utter self centered evil. Now put the words 'horror', 'low budget' and '1970s' together and I almost instinctively lower my expectations for the picture quality, but this transfer certainly put me in my place. There’s also a section on the influence of his films, including amusing clips from spoofs, such as Night of the Giving Head.

Romero's classic low budget horror and sequel to 'Night of the Living Dead' where the dead now roam the entire American continent, feeding off the flesh of the living.

There is a slight drop in quality with the extended material, due to its differing source, it’s slightly softer, colours aren’t quite so robust and the black level is lighter, but it is marginal and easily forgotten. These three versions replaced the Zombies on-screen title, with a cue card reading Dawn Of The Dead. I was able to track down a so-so quality copy of the Dawn Of The Dead Entertainment In Video VHS Trailer on YouTube, which was AI upscaled for inclusion here. Arguably, Romero's original is the most consistent and stable, except that around the 56-minute mark when Fran confronts the men about her role in the group, we see a bit of flickering or pulsing in the background.

Romero himself, in some of the interviews included in the set, claims he was aiming to make more of a comic book movie than anything particularly scary. The tenement scene early on is brutal and intense, but later on more comedy seeps in and the whole wish-fulfilment side of having a mall all to themselves, on top of having S.

The first of a Fangoria video magazine series on key figures in horror cinema focuses on the always energetic Savini. DTS-HD MA track from the Universal release (which is in no way a bad thing) and added their obligatory 2.

Creating something original, truly original, requires an extraordinary melding of skills, hard work and good fortune, in the writing, in the visual realisation, in the casting and in the securing of funding, and a whole lot more. As the director will admit, this is pretty blatant, so maybe subtext is the wrong word, but it’s handled well and gives the film an edge over more bog-standard horror fare. Add to that an amazing extras package that combines new and existing material and you have an unmissable set. We hope you’ll join us in our goal of building a strong community of like-minded enthusiast who have chosen to post with civility and in the spirit of uplifting others. From what I can gather, this cut omits much of the relationship drama and comedy elements (though surprisingly keeps the infamous pie scene) and amps up the bleak tone.Inside the case are a Booklet containing an excellent essay on the film by author and critic Calum Waddell and a fold-out reproduction of original posters for both Dawn of the Dead and Zombies, the latter being the exact size and design of one I begged from the local cinema manager on the film's initial UK release. Other titles include Sony's terrible Dark Tower adaptation, Well Go USA's uneven Broken Sword Hero, and Universal's . Things don’t get much better there, as the security guards try to control the group, and it’s not until they overpower and take things over themselves that they have a semblance of freedom.
