Lions Gate has done a great job with this set and seems to have put real care into it, maybe once they learn of this hiccough they'll correct it. These guys were making the first of it's kind, breaking the old two camera format mould and turning out wise-cracking, innapropriate genius comedy.

Moonlighting would still manage good ratings for the 1987-88 season (12th for the season, down from 9th the previous season), but the die was cast. And if you can see past the 80's current affairs gags and the shoulder pads, the show could easily stand up today. The original point of the show was watching these two people, who cared for each other very much, doing everything possible to never say they cared for each other, all the time cattily bitching back and forth. I was a complete Moonlighting nut, and yes, I think the hold-up is that the series was conformed to Beta tape (video), so they probably need to go the ST:TNG route to remaster it all. With plenty of madcap capers as well as a whole load of sexual tension thrown into the mix; this isn't your average Cop Show! The most notable guest was surely Orson Welles, who introduces the black and white noir spoof "The Dream Sequence Always Rings Twice". Some of the creative staff still have affection for her despite that, and said that when she really liked the script or was giving something different to do, she always rose to the occasion. At the very end of the commentary, Shepard breaks down crying, and laments, among other things, not being able to work with Willis on a Moonlighting movie. Klar, einiges wirkt nicht mehr ganz zeitgemäss, aber das gibt dem Ganzen irgendwie noch ein bisschen mehr Charme.

Among these is the Blue Moon Detective Agency, which Maddie plans to sell off until the fast-talking detective David Addison (Bruce Willis, Die Hard, The Sixth Sense, Pulp Fiction) convinces her that the business can turn a profit. The mysteries themselves weren't the appeal of the show, it was a case of the journey being more fun than the destination. What had been the hippest show on television for the last three years, had, over the summer, turned into some kind of dreary, downbeat soap opera, and an unfunny soap at that. Maybe it's because I know what will happen eventually with the show (having watched it through the wretched fourth season) or maybe it's because there have been similar styled shows since this left the air, but it comes across as a bit trite and not as cutting edge as it was when it first aired. Die rasend schnellen Dialoge (man stelle sich Lorelai Gilmore nach drei Energy Drinks und einem Espresso vor . In Cybill Shepherd's autobiography she mentions that when Moonlighting was first released on DVD, she wasn't invited to participate in any of the extras, and was obviously quite put out that Bruce Willis did a commentary - so it's nice to see her appear in these featurettes. She also looked at ease and natural (not to mention stunningly beautiful) wearing incredibly expensive clothes and furs which she often did in the show.

Most bizarrely, they used the same piece of score in the later episode "Witness For The Execution," and for that episode, it's been left in. Season 4 episodes are: 'A Trip to the Moon', 'Come Back Little Shiksa', 'Take a Left at the Altar', 'Tale in Two Cities', 'Cool Hand Dave (Part One)', 'Cool Hand Dave (Part Two)', 'Father Knows Last', 'Los Dos DiPestos', 'Fetal Attraction', 'Tracks of My Tears', 'Eek! I vividly remember watching the season opener of Moonlighting: Season Four the night it originally aired, and thinking, "What the hell happened to David Addison? As they go to sleep, each of them has a dream where they envision themselves, and their partner, as the suspects in the case. Caron, meanwhile, would launch another mid-season replacement series which became a surprise hit: NBC's Medium with Patricia Arquette. While Maddie continues brooding in Chicago, David recruits Bert Viola for a case concerning an AWOL bridegroom. This succeeds, but in so doing he finds himself under extra strain, leading to all manner of complications. The actors obviously enjoyed working with each other during the show, and this great episode is perfect for their comments.

The difference is that Caron was able to turn this standard guy-girl detective team plot on its ear and created a wonderfully funny and different type of TV show: Moonlighting. I also still have my commercial VHS of Lady In The Iron Mask the episode with the music replacement (only with the original music). Nun ist es ja oft so dass man sich heutzutage bei vielen alten Serien irgendwie fremdschämt weil sie einem jetzt - im Vergleich mit dem was das Fernsehen heute so bietet - einfach nur schlecht vorkommen.Note: Our refurbished grades - Pristine, Very Good and Good - are solely based on the cosmetic condition of the phone. im hoping at some point we can get some official comment on this and posibly have it as a bonus episode in a later set.
