I also didn't feel the characters had much depth to them. Therefore, I was unable to connect with them.

As Laila sits by the pool she finds herself inexplicably drawn to the other family staying in their resort. The most richly accomplished of the brothers’ pairings to date—and given Connelly’s high standards, that’s saying a lot. When days later one of the boys ends up dead. Laila thinks she knows who did it and explains it to the Police detective that comes to investigate. All in all the story stayed a bit too long on the same level for me to be fully gripped and challenged. The last part of the novel was therefore also the most enjoyable part. I actually loved the reveal of another twist more than finding out the whodunit. A big part of the novel is building up to the reveal of course and it just fell a little flat when I found out the truth.A thriller that relies on misdirection while dealing with issues of family, love, mental health, assault, and suicide.

But when one of the teenage boys is found dead in the pool, their lives are completely blown apart. Was Laila involved? Was James involved? Were the family involved? Or was it someone else entirely? No one can be trusted and secrets begin to unravel. Sinister and beautifully atmospheric, The Other Guest lures you with the promise of a luxury island before revealing its darker, claustrophobic side. I loved it.”– L V Matthews, author of The TwinsA] strong psychological thriller…Credible characters enhance the suspenseful plot. Cooper remains a writer to watch.”– Publishers Weekly To say it's categorised as a thriller, I didn't find it very thrilling - excuse the pun. It's a bit mysterious maybe but honestly, all that build up for, in my opinion, not a fantastic ending. I was really waiting for some big plot twist or a seriously dramatic turn of events. Sadly, it never came. Laila loves watching people and soon becomes obsessed with one of the families at the resort. She is so jealous of Em and her husband and their two boys Theo and Issac. With its keep-you-guessing story line and holiday setting, fans of domestic thrillers will devour' Heat magazine This is a bit of a slow burn, as things deliberately unfold and just as one timeline/storyline gets exciting, then we switch over to another. Overall, I liked the book and the plot. There are some instances that are very far fetched, but others are intriguing and interesting and kept me invested to find out what was going on. I liked Joanna, but I didn't really like Leah or any of the other characters.

Emilia is on holiday with her husband and 12-year-old twin boys. She has no idea who Laila is, or that she has been watching her family so intently since they arrived. Emilia is enjoying her holiday far too much to worry about anyone else. The womanizing asshole’s offense was some groping but someone dies over it and then a massive coverup ensues? I mean, not that I am wishing someone got the full monty from this loser but come on. A domestic noir with a simple story that oozes nuance and fine detail. Have you dreaming of summer, despite the mystery that will occupy your attention' Crime FM Heidi Perks has a gift for ratcheting up tension and suspense in her books, leaving this reader gasping for breath with the lights on in the middle of the night. Bravo!' Liz Nugent Laila and her husband James. James books a holiday, on an exclusive Greek island resort. James is hoping that this holiday will help them both relax, as they have just gone through an unsuccessful IVF and felt they both needed a break. Laila is so obsessed with having a baby but James thinks they have both gone through enough especially as it's put a great strain on their marriage. But, he loves Laila and wants them to work.Em has no idea who Laila is, or that she has been watching her and her teenage sons and husband so intently. I thought the ending of the book was very satisfying. There were a couple red herrings along the way. All of the loose ends were tied up nicely but not in a way that seemed too “happily ever after”.

A normal, every day joe gets himself mixed up with a womanizing asshole and finds himself chasing after a girl, who drowns in front of him but doesn’t try to save her? All he wanted was her phone. Could he not think through this?Leah is finally feeling like she is able to visit her family's resort a year after her niece, Amy, died there. She's not liking what she sees when she gets there and starts an investigation of her own to try to find out what really happened to Amy. I liked this part of the story.
