Thus Analogue Productions has reissued August and Everything After as a double LP set to maximize the dynamic range of this recording. A first rate orchestra (The Boston Pops), a distinguished conductor (Arthur Fiedler), and a superb pianist (Earl Wild) combine to make this landmark recording something to be treasured. The result, "The Tall Grass," which leads to "Elevator Boots," which segues into "Angel on 14th Street," whose climatic crash is the first power chord to the intro to the final song, "Bobby and the Rat-Kings. The fabled acoustics of Boston’s Symphony Hall and the magnificent tonal hues of the Boston Pops are on full display on this fanciful and festive recording. It features such stand-out cuts as the dark lilt of Anna Begin, the morose Rain King, and the outstanding U2-meets-Grant Lee Buffalo anthem Murder of One and of course Mr Jones. It is a bit more laid back from the CD/Digital versions I own, and a tad less low-end and top-end sparkle, but overall a great-sounding pressing.
