The Castle Of Tangled Magic is a 2020 middle grade fantasy novel by Sophie Anderson, illustrated by Saara Soderlund. The story follows 13-year-old Olia as she journeys into a magical land to save her family and home. Overall I loved The Castle of Tangled Magic! As with all Sophie Anderson’s books it is a magical enthralling read with such loveable characters, and real heart at the centre of it. Welsh Books for Young People – Our Best of 2020". The Castle of Tangled Magic by Sophie Anderson Review - The Castle of Tangled Magic by Sophie Anderson

With The Castle of Tangled Magic, Sophie Anderson has woven Russian folklore together with modern fantasy and a lovely family and created something special and unique. One of my most anticipated novels of 2020 did not disappoint as I devoured this masterpiece in one day. A huge thank you to Usborne and Netgalley for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review. Considering Anderson is one of my favourite writers, it's easy to conclude that, honestly, this is her best work yet.It would be wrong of me to not also mention the illustrations, which are breathtaking. They add another level to the storytelling, allowing the reader to get a truly fairytale feel. Chicago style: The Free Library. S.v. The Castle of Tangled Magic.." Retrieved Oct 31 2023 from https://www.thefreelibrary.com/The+Castle+of+Tangled+Magic.-a0656936609 I found The Castle of Tangled Magic to be an incredibly compelling read, the plot held my interest at every turn, the tension felt real and there was a real sense of danger and the risk-factor throughout were very high. Our characters faced a number of challenges throughout their adventure, keeping the pacing of the plot well driven throughout. It's difficult to put this book down as these characters are moving forward through their journey at such a danger fuelled tempo, you don't want to miss a minute of it. When thirteen-year-old Olia, steps through a magical doorway, she discovers another land. A land tangled by magic, where hope is lost, and a scheming wizard holds all the power. Swirling magic, cascading invention and a welter of invented folklore traditions propel this headlong fairy tale story from its opening moments. Brought up in huge castle that was once home to her Royal relatives, and much influenced by her grandmother who is a great believer in old magic, Olia has always known that she also has the gift of believing in magic and so making it work. When the old palace is under threat from a violent force, it is Olia who must find the magical doorway that will take her into another land. Olia needs courage, imagination and the power of her love for her family and everything in their world to embark on her roller coaster adventure. Full of surprises and fuelled by love this is an exciting and heart-warming story.

The Castle of Tangled Magic Book Reviews | Toppsta

Unlike Sophie's first two novels, this one is a "portal" story, where Olia, who already lives in a wondrous and probably magical castle, travels through a portal with a household spirit into a land of pure magic. A land where everything is starting to fall apart, where she needs to find allies and find her way and find a solution before everything unravels completely. There's such an overwhelming sense of peril, that kept me absolutely gripped. The fairy tale creatures she meets are fascinating too, drawn from a Russian folklore that I'm really not familiar with, to give the whole thing a sense of being different and intriguing. And as with all the best fairy tales, things are never quite what they first seem. The magical world is so well described and explored, and the magical creatures are so diverse and beautifully crafted. They are all unique characters with personalities and roles to further the plot. My personal favourites would be Deg a type of tree creature, and Feliks who is a fox spirit who protects the castle, and is a very important ally to Olia throughout the novel. When thirteen-year-old Olia steps through a magical doorway, she discovers another land. A land tangled by magic, where hope is lost, and a scheming wizard holds all the power. Soon Olia learns that she is destined to save this land, but with time running out and her new friends and family in danger, she must search for the magic within herself - to save everything and everyone she loves. About This Edition ISBN: A natural storyteller, Sophie Anderson has done it again with this gem of a book. The Castle of Tangled Magic mingles Russian folklore mingles with the magic of her own imagination to create a compelling and engaging adventure, told in rich, evocative language with much imagery related to nature and its beauty.

Throughout her adventure, Olia encounters a diverse array of magical beings drawn from Slavic folklore. In this enchanted realm, she learns that appearances can be deceiving, and that mysteries abound at every turn. I need to read more stories like this again, as they bring me unparalleled amounts of joy. This is the type of escapism I need. This is one of my favourite books that I’ve read this year so far. It is ultimately about the power of love, friendship and family. Both my parents are carpenters, and they use one of the old ballrooms as a workshop. The floor and walls are covered with enormous pictures I’ve been drawing in there since I was old enough to hold a piece of chalk. Some of the other big rooms in the castle are used by the villagers who live nearby. My school puts on a show in the old theatre once a year. And the biggest room, the Great Hall, is used for almost every birthday, wedding and wake. At these gatherings, I hear stories about the castle’s history that are seasoned with myth and legend. There is a tale that Castle Mila was built by a lone carpenter, using one perfect axe. No nails were used, because the wooden pieces were cut to fit precisely together. And when the carpenter finished, the axe was thrown into the lake, which is why no other castle like it has ever been built. In the summer, I’ve spent whole days diving into the lake with my friends, looking for the axe. The search is fun, but I’m always slightly relieved when we don’t find it, because there is another tale that I’d rather believe instead. My grandmother, Babusya, says Castle Mila was built from magic, and that to understand why, I should talk to the spirits who live in and around our home. I’ve memorized her descriptions of house spirits, water spirits and tree spirits, and searched for them all my life. A few times I think I might have seen or felt something. But after thirteen years, I still have no proof these spirits exist. I keep on exploring though. There is nothing like the excitement of finding hidden spaces and forgotten treasures. I’m determined to find my way into every inch of the castle and discover all of its secrets. Now more than ever, because I have a new baby sister. Rosa is three weeks old and makes my heart swell with love every time I look at her. I haven’t figured out how to be the best big sister for her yet, but I want to be strong and brave and good, and show her all the wonders in the world. So, if there is magic hiding somewhere in our home, then I’m going to find it, and share it with my sister. Night Mayor Franklefink has vanished from the Transylvanian Express - and it's up to you to solve the case! Part of the Solve Your Own Mystery seri...
