As a B Corp, Saalt also supports ethical sourcing and manufacturing practices. Our ethically-made garments are made in a renowned factory that guarantees safe and healthy labor conditions and goes above and beyond to provide housing, medical care, safe water, and college scholarships for their seamstresses and workers. As someone who’s used tampons or pads my entire life, my first impression was honestly an uncontrolled mix of fear and anxiety, but also excitement. Instantly, I noticed the menstrual cup itself is a lot bigger than I thought it would be. I immediately questioned how it was going to fit. However, once I read the instructions, and realized the length of the entire cup was almost the same length as my tampon, it made the whole process seem a lot more doable.

After your period, rinse your menstrual cup in cold water first to help avoid discoloration and odor. Then wash thoroughly using our all-natural Saalt Wash or hot water and mild soap. Avoid strong cleaners or anything that may irritate your skin if not completely washed off. Use a soft rag to wipe away any buildup. Clear the four holes at the top of your Saalt Menstrual Cup by passing water through the holes. Then sanitize your cup by placing it in a pot of boiling water for 4–5 minutes (but not more than 7 min). Use tongs or a whisk to make sure the cup doesn’t rest on the bottom of the pot. When boiling is not an option, you may sanitize your cup by rinsing it with water and then thoroughly wiping your cup (and all its nooks and crannies) with a soft rag and 70% isopropyl alcohol. Allow the alcohol to evaporate and you’re good to go! For some, there is a feeling of fullness or slight pressure the first cycle or two until their bodies adjust to the idea of a menstrual disc. Regular period flow, light bladder leaks, or as a replacement for a tampon, pad, cup, or disc if you are a light bleeder.

Yes absolutely. No chance of any leaking blood down your legs, any escaped strings. I do find that some water leaks into the cup which comes out when the cup is removed. This is fine and if you weren't wearing a cup water would get into your vagina anyway. I always empty my cup after swimming. Full Details In Our Article "Can I Go Swimming With A Cup?" Can I exercise with my menstrual cup in? Our Leakproof Cotton Collection is a wonderful Saalt Wear option for those who are in search of a simple pair of period underwear to move with them through their everyday life. The body is made of smooth and breathable cotton that will make you feel like you are wrapped in your favorite tee. The Leakproof Seamless Collection includes light, regular, and heavy absorbency styles. The Seamless Thong is made for your light flow days and holds 1–2 light tampons (~ 1 tsp or 3–6 ml) worth of flow. The Seamless Bikini and High Waist are both made for your regular flow days and hold 2–3 regular tampons (2–3 tsp or 10–15 ml) worth of flow. Finally, the Seamless Brief comes in both regular absorbency and heavy absorbency which holds 3-4 regular tampons (3–4 tsp or 15–20 ml) worth of flow. Keeps you confident. Our sheet-saving, tight-pants-braving leakproof barrier gives you no pad, no problem confidence. No. You can go to the toilet as normal when wearing a menstrual cup. Some people prefer to remove their menstrual cup for a bowel movement but the choice is yours. Does a period cup smell?

If you find your cervix becoming sore from the disc removal process, we recommend trying the following to not irritate your cervix: Our Leakproof Lace & Mesh Collection has silky soft recycled poly fabrics made of post-consumer recycled water bottles to help clean up landfill and ocean-bound plastic. Try gently bearing down like you’re going to pee to relax your pelvic floor and loosen your vaginal muscles. (Never hold your breath while bearing down, but continue breathing) The Saalt menstrual cup is worn internally like a tampon, but collects—rather than absorbs—your period flow. The Saalt menstrual cup stays in place by creating a seal between the cup and your vaginal wall. Once your cup is filled, you simply empty, rinse, and reinsert the cup for another 12 hours of protection.

First, the Saalt Cup + Saalt Wear dynamic duo is our favorite way to period. Why? Because it provides a fully reusable solution to replace both tampons and pads that is better for our bodies and the planet. As a B Corp, we select supply chain partners whose values align with the commitment we’ve made to be a force for good in the world. Our ethically-made fabrics are made in a renowned factory that guarantees safe and healthy labor conditions and goes above and beyond to provide housing, medical care, safe water, and college scholarships for their seamstresses and workers. Our Leakproof Comfort Collection is made from soft and stretchy TENCEL™ Modal fabric. Saalt Wear modal fabric is made of a regenerated cellulose fiber produced from renewable beech wood. Our modal is sourced from Lenzing, an Austrian company that is one of the industry’s leaders in semi-synthetic fiber production.

Based on first impressions, it was obvious that the company goes to great lengths to make the process approachable and pleasant for first-timers. Even the little bag they included to store the cup was adorable. Using The Saalt Menstrual Cup Sustainable - One Saalt Cup lasts for up to 10 years and replaces thousands of single-use period products. (Wonder how much waste you can eliminate by switching? Try our Waste Calculator to find out!) Our Leakproof Seamless Collection is made from ultra-durable LYCRA® XTRA LIFE™ fiber, with our standard patent-pending gusset. No VPL ensures it will maintain excellent fit and shape retention wash after wash, wear after wear. Your favorite leakproof underwear, panty lines not included.

What is a menstrual cup?

Please do not use the following that may degrade the silicone over time, disrupt your natural pH and vaginal flora, or may lead to irritation: Insert the cup slightly higher into the vaginal canal. The vagina is at its narrowest near the entrance and is slightly wider higher into the canal. Saalt started with a phone call Cherie made to an aunt in Venezuela, where pads and tampons had not been available in stores for years. She immediately thought of her daughters and what she would do if she found herself in the same situation. The dependence she and others had on disposables kept her up at night. Pinch the base of the cup and rotate it to get it to fully open. This may be a few short twists or a full 360 degree rotation. Our Leakproof Comfort Collection is made of dreamy soft-stretch TENCEL™ Modal fabric, aka unbelievably soft fabric made from sustainably regenerated cellulose fiber that comes from renewable beech wood. It feels like clouds and works like whoa. It’s as soft as it is reliable. You’ve got to feel it to believe it.
