Description

This harness fits supremely well without restricting the dog’s movement in any way. It’s also a doddle to put on and one of the easiest to adjust. Granted, it’s not the cheapest model here, but it’s very well designed and a great option for both energetic dogs and hot sultry summers. If the Halti does not stop your dog from pulling, they may experience high levels of discomfort – even if the product is only used on walks. How are Haltis Different to Muzzles? Well, I'm around 5 feet and I say this to give context to the length of the lead because it's very long, in fact even my husband thinks this is the case and he's taller than me (to be fair, most people are). Mostly, it gave me peace of mind and a little confidence that I probably had a little more control to combat their strength if/when needed, the reality might have been different. HALTI's products are well priced for the market, in fact, there are others a lot more expensive, so the cost alone might make them worth a try if you're considering whether you might benefit from extra control over a pulling dog, whatever their size or strength.

A hardy, weather-resistant material covers the outer layer of the panels. This makes it perfect for use in any season. It’s scratch-resistant too, so if your pooch likes to rough and tumble in it, it’ll stand up to the wear. When I walk the boys I tend to take them on my own for a long walk to get some fresh air and R&R just the two of us and we'll go to the park and play football too. Leaving a Halti on your dog long-term can be cruel, as it is only designed for short periods. Leaving it on long term can cause fur loss and other injuries. If you have a puppy or a small dog up to 15kgs in weight that you’d rather not let off the lead, consider one of these extendable auto-rewind models from Flexi. Available in two lengths (3m and 5m) and three sizes, the Flexi’s tape is neon coloured so others are less likely to get tangled up in it when your dog’s doing its mad dog stuff. We would suggest the 5m version simply because it’s a good thing to have an extra two metres to hand. Hiby, E. (et al), ‘ Dog Training Methods: Their Use, Effectiveness and Interaction with Behavior and Welfare’, Psychology: Animal Welfare (2004)

So, the best long term solution to prevent pulling is to use positive reinforcement training to teach the heel command. Not only is this more likely to work in the long term, but it will also help you build a much stronger bond with your dog. Are Haltis Cruel? It's mostly a preventative measure needed for short bursts so I feel happier, quite honestly, and a few months ago I asked to review the HALTI No-Pull Harness. The 3-in-1 No-Pull Dog Harness is a durable, no-pull harness with a price that won't break the bank. The heavy-duty plastic clips are seriously large and we wonder if this combination of wide webbing and large clips is the reason the whole harness tends to shift over to one side after a few minutes wear. That said, at no time did the dog – an elderly Labrador – appear to be in discomfort. We suspect the smaller sizes use narrower, thinner and more supple webbing, which should ensure the harness remains in better position. So when we first got Chris and Danny, it was an adjustment. Mia, slowing down then has never been a puller like I say, but Chris and Danny are now both adults, Chris is 4 and Danny is 5 or 6. The following considerations will help you find the best harness to prevent your dog from pulling on leash. This is designed as a no-pull solution for most dogs, with both a lifting action and front control steering. It’s a great design for flat-nosed dogs who cannot wear a headcollar.

Ostensibly designed for active dogs accompanying their owners on long outdoor runs in the countryside, the Hi & Light is constructed from light Ripstop nylon material and features slim nylon straps, a single top-mounted aluminium leash clasp and a sealed Velcro pouch with integral cord for attaching a name tag. The pouch is also big enough to store a few emergency poo bags. If you own a dog that is a problem puller, then the HALTI harness will definitely help you teach your dog to walk more calmly by your side.Remember, these head collars work by pairing the pulling action with an uncomfortable, unpleasant consequence. The Julius-K9 provides a reassuringly snug fit that doesn’t get in the way of the dog’s movements; the lower chest strap sits just behind the forelegs and doesn’t rub against the elbows. However, it does seem a bit over-engineered. The chest webbing on the Size 1 model we tested is about 5cm in width and strong enough to pull a train. It’s also difficult to adjust. At the end of the day, even the best dog harness in the world won’t replace proper lead training. If your dog is going to pull, they’re going to pull, regardless of what type of harness they’re wearing.

Todd, Z. ‘ Barriers to the Adoption of Humane Dog Training Methods’, Journal of Veterinary Behavior (2018) The lightweight design allows for full range of movement, and the padded chest and leg straps keep your dog comfortable. If your dog needs to be muzzled on walks, for whatever reason, a Halti is not a suitable alternative. Will a Halti Stop my Dog from Pulling? This is because the Halti doesn’t train your dog to heel. It just gives your dog an unpleasant consequence when he tries to pull.
